Testimony of sister Beatrice Mukamana

I joined the community on 15/02/1988. In the family I come from I am the firstborn. I had a desire to serve God, bvt it was not easy due to Rwanda culture. When someone gave birth to a baby girl, they were
expected to receive a bride price in the future and grandchildren were highly valued. This cultural expectation made it difficult to choose a path of religious service.

Despite that, I grew up with a strong love for prayer. That’s why I believe that I kept hearing God’s voice with me, calling me to serve him. There is something also I never forget about my calling: we used to live near catholic sisters and there was one called Sr. Emma, who worked at the centre in Nyange. I always looked forward to the day my mother and I would go to take a child to the centre, just so I could see sister Emma. She played a big role in nurturing and encouraging my calling. In general, I do not regret choosing this life of serving God and praying. God has done so much form me. He protected me and my family during the genocide, when human help could not save us. Jesus protected me and for this reason, I want to continue to rely on Him and I am proud of being a sister, and I am happy that Jesus loves me. May God bless you!
