It was a great party, which the sisters celebrated in November 2024! The theme: God has done great things for us, we rejoice! permeated the entire programme, which spanned several days.
With a nice number of guests from Europe and nearly 800 people present from around the sisters, God was thanked for his guidance and preservation over the past 40 years. The beautiful and difficult periods and moments were recalled in the speeches. This of course included the terrible events of 1994 and the passing away of Sr Anke Slagmolen in 2008.
That so much could be built up and so many blessings were experienced despite these drastic events, made that gratitude prevailed.
It was wonderful that a large number of former orphan village children were present! They too expressed their gratitude for the fact that they were so wonderfully taken care of by the sisters after the genocide. Their time in the orphan village is far behind them, most of them are married and have children, but they do not forget the period they spent with the sisters!
The sisters had indicated as their goal for the anniversary donations that they would like to allocate them to the newly started project in Kigali: a Mental Health Care centre, where they want to help traumatised people.
