Foundation Friends of

The sisters in the Netherlands have been in contact with Rwanda since 1956. This contact created a deaconess community in the town of Rubengera in 1984. The cooperation between the deaconesses in Rwanda and Amerongen is intensive. Over the years beautiful projects have started. When the deaconesses from Rwanda were able to recover after the genocide in Amerongen, where they stayed from August 1994 until March 1995, the connection between the two sister communities became even stronger. After their return to Rwanda, the deaconesses continued and expanded their diaconal work in order to help the local population as much as possible. The deaconesses offer help in which self-reliance is the keyword so that there arises no dependency relationship.

Foundation Friends of Sisters in Rwanda was founded in 2011 under the name Friends of Abaja ba Kristo. Rwandan for Servants of God. The sister community in Amerongen is getting smaller. The support foundation was established to ensure continuity of support. From 2018, the foundation continued under the name Foundation Friends of Sisters in Rwanda.

The Friends of Sisters Foundation in Rwanda is a sister organization of the Dutch Missionary Deaconesses.
